Jayapura- The Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Task Force has again succeeded in uncovering a new suspect in the case of buying and selling illegal firearms which is being handled. After successfully arresting the suspect Petrus Oyaitouw on June 4 2024, now the Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Gakkum Task Force has succeeded in securing a new suspect in the development of the case .
Head of Cartenz-2024 Peace operations, Police Commissioner. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, when confirmed, said that the new suspect who was arrested was Sarius Indey, a 58 year old civil servant, who lives in Hamadi Gunung, South Jayapura District, Jayapura City.
Meanwhile, Head of the Public Relations Task Force for OPS Damai Cartenz-2024, AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno, in his statement also said that Sarius Indey was arrested on Friday, June 7 2024 at around 18.16 WIT in Hamadi Nelayan Village, South Jayapura District by the Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Gakkum Task Force team.
“After the arrest, Sarius Indey was then taken to the Papua Police Investigation Room for further examination,” explained AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno.
He continued, during the arrest, the Task Force team also secured evidence in the form of a cell phone and ID belonging to Sarius Indey.
“The arrest of Sarius Indey is the result of the development of an investigation into Petrus Oyaitouw who had previously been arrested and was strongly suspected of being involved in a network supplying firearms to armed criminal groups (KKB) in the Tabi area,” he continued.
Based on information obtained from Petrus Oyaitouw, Sarius Indey is known to have owned and given him a Flare type weapon.
According to Sarius Indey’s confession in the initial examination, he got the weapon from children who found a rusty weapon at the former Transportation Service office in 2021.
“Sarius then handed the weapon over to Petrus Oyaitouw who intended to repair it for hunting use. “Apart from that, Sarius also gave 10 million rupiah to Petrus to purchase other weapons,” added the Head of the Public Relations Task Force.
AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno added that the Gakkum Ops Damai Cartenz-2024 Task Force team continues to investigate this case and trace the illegal firearms buying and selling network involving Sarius Indey and Petrus Oyaitouw.
“Currently, Sarius Indey is undergoing further investigation and development at the Papua Regional Police. The Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Task Force continues to be committed to eradicating the illegal firearms distribution network in Papua in order to maintain security and order in this region,” said AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno .
