Puncak Jaya – The heartbreaking tragedy of Zainul, an ojek driver from Jember, who was shot dead by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Puncak Jaya, Central Papua, once again haunts the region. Zainul died from a gunshot wound to the head, adding to the long list of violence perpetrated by KKB in Papua.
Incident Chronology
The shooting of Zainul occurred in Kampung Usir, Mulia District, on Thursday (May 30). According to Puncak Jaya Police Chief AKBP Kuswara, Zainul not only worked as an ojek driver but also frequently lent money to residents in the Mulia District. “He worked various jobs, sometimes lending money, sometimes driving an ojek,” Kuswara told detikcom on Saturday (June 1).
That day, Zainul was heading to a kiosk to collect money someone had borrowed. Unfortunately, he met a tragic fate. “According to the information we gathered, he was collecting money. Possibly, during the incident, he was collecting from the borrower. Suddenly, the shooting occurred,” Kuswara added.
KKB Involvement
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting was carried out by KKB members known as Bumi Walo and Rambo. This information came from conversations revealed by the Damai Cartenz Task Force. Although there is no official confirmation regarding the perpetrators, strong suspicions point to this group. “We are still investigating the case and cannot confirm the identity of the perpetrators yet. However, strong indications point to KKB,” Kuswara stated.
No Eyewitnesses
The shooting happened while the kiosk was closed. The kiosk owner, who heard the gunshots, came out and found Zainul lying in a pool of blood. “The only witness is the kiosk owner. They heard the gunshots, came out, and saw Zainul lying in a pool of blood, and immediately evacuated him to the hospital,” Kuswara explained.
Public Reaction and Security in Puncak Jaya
This tragic incident has heightened fear and anxiety among the residents of Puncak Jaya. The ongoing indiscriminate violence by KKB highlights the precarious security situation in the region. The murder of Zainul, a hardworking man merely trying to earn a living, showcases the brutality of KKB, which does not hesitate to take innocent lives.
Call for Decisive Action
The community urges the government and security forces to take decisive action against the KKB threat. Ensuring the safety and tranquility of residents must be a top priority to prevent further victims like Zainul. “The victim only lent money to ordinary residents, not KKB members,” Kuswara emphasized, refuting suggestions that Zainul was involved with the criminal group.
This tragedy reminds us that KKB’s violent actions have crossed the line, claiming the lives of innocent people. Zainul’s murder should serve as a wake-up call for law enforcement to enhance efforts to protect Papua’s residents and ensure justice for the victims of KKB’s violence.
