Mimika- Timika-Central Papua intellectual figure Fransiskus Kemong, appealed to the public to be wise in using social media, especially ahead of the general election. He emphasized the importance of maintaining security and avoiding being incited by propaganda issues that could provoke and harm many parties.
In his statement published on the inbrek.com media page in Jayapura on Monday (27/5), Kemong stated that many people are easily influenced by provocative issues on social media. He reminded that security is the main key in holding successful elections and invited all elements of society to unite in maintaining stability.
Kemong hopes that Papua can be an example for other regions in holding peaceful regional elections, in accordance with the slogan “Papua loves peace”. He invited the public to learn from the chaos that occurred during the legislative elections last February, which he said was detrimental to many parties except certain individuals.
Kemong also emphasized the importance of firm action from law enforcement officials against anyone who tries to disrupt the holding of the election. According to him, Pilkada is an opportunity to elect leaders who can bring positive change, and therefore, all parties must work together to make it a success.
In the end, Kemong reminded that Papua is part of the Republic of Indonesia and emphasized that attempts to thwart the regional elections should not be tolerated. By wisely using social media and maintaining security, the public can support the implementation of peaceful and successful elections.
