May 1St, Jayapura Breaks World Record

Jayapura- The 11 km long red and white cloth stretching action carried out by the Jayapura City Government succeeded in recording the name of Jayapura City in the Indonesian MURI record. Interestingly, this red and white cloth has the title of longest in the world.

It is from this note that MURI on Wednesday (1/5) gave the award to the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekei. “This is the longest so far. “Previously it was held by North Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi for a length of 7.8 km which stretched at Tulisa Beach, Laloso,” said Awan Rahargo, Marketing Director of MURI in Holtekamp.

It is said that the record in Jayapura City is included in the Superlative criteria, namely the most, largest or longest activities and unique activities and the stretch which starts from Ring Road to Holtekamp has a length of 10,076 meters or more than 10 km and broke the world record. Awan said MURI was proud because the red and white broke the easternmost city of Indonesia at the same time as the momentum of Papua joining the Republic of Indonesia.

“This shows that Papua has commitment and expresses extraordinary enthusiasm. “We are proud because this record breaking is only from the most remote areas,” he explained.

Acting Mayor, Frans Pekei, said that this achievement was a collaboration between all components of society. Forkopimda, OPD, Community, Community Association and schools to banking and teaching staff.

“I appreciate all the hard work that has been done and this is a matter of shared pride,” he concluded.
