Papua – Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) in Papua continue to cause concern and discomfort among the local population. The violent actions perpetrated by these groups have resulted in significant losses to the well-being and order in the region.
In recent months, there has been a series of incidents indicating an escalation of violence by armed groups in Papua. One alarming event is the attack on public facilities, such as burning government offices and assaulting civilians and law enforcement.
These actions not only cause economic harm but also create an atmosphere of fear among the local population.
Residents of Papua, especially in the Mountainous region, express their worries and anxieties about their safety and that of their families due to the presence of these armed criminal groups.
“Many feel restricted in their daily activities because of the fear of becoming victims of unexpected violence,” said one resident in Intan Jaya.
Previously, several residents in Intan Jaya, particularly women, engaged in dialogue with the TNI-Polri security forces regarding the security situation in the area.
The local government, together with security forces, has intensified law enforcement efforts to address this situation. Security operations are being conducted intensively to identify and apprehend members of these armed criminal groups.
Amid this concerning situation, the hope is for all parties to work together to create a safe and peaceful environment for the people of Papua. Collaborative efforts in resolving this conflict are expected to lead Papua towards a more stable and prosperous future.
As quoted from Jubi on April 26, 2024, Mangadar Situmorang explained that the issue of Papua is quite complex due to the involvement of foreign parties, actively seeking to divide Indonesia. Furthermore, there are separatist or resistance groups not only causing civilian casualties but also various human rights violations.
