Jayapura – One indigenous figure in Papua, Herman Yoku, is urging all parties to unite after the legislative (Pileg) and presidential (Pilpres) elections held on February 14.
“I am Herman Yoku, the Head of the Wikaya Great Tribe in Keerom Regency and also a Papuan figure. Here I want to convey to all Indonesian citizens, especially those in Papua Province. The election results on February 14, 2024, which coincided with Valentine’s Day, saw us exercise our political rights. As citizens, we have fulfilled our responsibilities by visiting polling stations,” he said in Jayapura on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
“We have visited all polling stations in Papua, as well as those in other New Autonomous Regions (DOB). We have fully implemented this across the board, including Papua Province as the parent province, Central Papua Province, South Papua Province, Mountainous Papua Province, West Papua Province, and Southwest Papua Province. We have listened to the results of all elections in Papua,” he continued.
Herman, a former member of the Papuan People’s Council, stated that by fully entrusting the organizers to process and announce the election winners, it is the duty of good citizens to accept the results with open hearts and broad minds. Whoever is elected represents the people and will lead the Republic of Indonesia for the next five years.
“We have all exercised our voting rights or made choices in the February 14 elections. Now it is time to forget our differences in choices. Let’s look forward to a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
According to him, by uniting and embracing the decisions of the election organizers regarding who will be elected as representatives and leaders of the people, public order and security (Kamtibmas) will be better maintained.
“Whoever is determined by the Election Commission (KPU) will be the Father of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, not a father belonging to a political party or any other entity, but a father belonging to the people across the archipelago within the framework of the beloved Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
