Papua – Member of Commission I DPR RI Bobby Rizaldi believes that changing the term for the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) to the Free Papua Organization (OPM) is confusing. The government was asked to sit down together to discuss the polemic.
“Frankly, it is getting more confusing, the government, in this case the Kemenkopolhukam and TNI-Polri, should sit down together to define these armed groups,” said Bobby, Friday 12 April 2024.
Bobby mentioned too many names for armed groups in Papua, from KKB, KST, to most recently OPM. According to him, OPM actually agrees that there is an independent Papuan organization in Papua.
“Because it gives the impression that there is an independent Papuan organization, even though it is clear that Papua is Indonesia,” he said.
He also reminded TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto not to let differences in definitions make handling in Papua less synergistic. He said the definition made it confusing as to what approach to use.
“Because don’t let differences in definition make the handling of the security situation in Papua different in concept and less synergistic. You want a humanist approach to law enforcement, but your opponent has an arsenal of military weapons. You want to deal with it militarily, but the deployment of TNI forces is only limited to assistance with limited military weapons such as enforcers. “the law (can’t bomb),” he said.
“It would be better if the Kemenkopolhukam and TNI-Polri sat down together, so that armed military groups can be eradicated which are troubling the people of Papua,” he added.
Previously, the TNI again called the armed group in Papua the OPM. The term previously used by the TNI was terrorist separatist group (KST), while the National Police used the term armed criminal group (KKB).
