Jayapura – Papuan Traditional Leader Yanto Eluay invited all residents to foster a sense of tolerance between religious communities in the area.
“Tolerance is the root of a peaceful and peaceful life, so it should continue to be maintained so that together we can create safe conditions in Papua,” said Papuan Traditional Leader Yanto Eluay in Sentani, Friday.
According to Yanto, Jayapura Regency is a real example of implementing religious tolerance, where Muslims and Christians can live side by side without any friction.
“We can just look at the Al Aqsa Grand Mosque and the Catholic Church next to each other in Sentani City and every religious activity from each religion is going well,” he said.
He explained that especially when Muslims were performing the month-long Tarawih Prayers, Catholic youth always guarded the front of the Al Aqsa Grand Mosque, and vice versa.
“Actually, in Papua in general the level of tolerance is very good and has been going on for a long time, so as time goes by, we hope that the culture of tolerance will continue to be maintained,” he said.
He added that the TNI-Polri security forces together with the regional government continue to maintain and create good and harmonious conditions for security and public order (kamtibmas).
“Religious assistance is provided in a balanced and regular manner so that it does not cause social jealousy but rather strengthens the sense of togetherness,” he said.
