Jayapura- General Chair of the National Papuan Indigenous Youth Leadership Council, Yan Christian Arebo, fully supports the efforts of the TNI and Polri authorities to take firm action against Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) in Papua.
According to him, the video of the torture of a citizen in a drum by a number of TNI members in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, was an attempt to reveal the perpetrator of the shooting of Sertu Ismunandar.
Ismunandar was shot dead by KKB while traveling to the Kulirik area with his colleague, Serka Salim Lestaluhu.
Yan Arebo is of the opinion that the actions of a number of TNI members that went viral were an interrogation step so that residents suspected of being KKB sympathizers would reveal the names of the perpetrators involved in the shooting incident in Gome, Puncak Regency.
“What the TNI members carried out was interrogation of TPNPB or KKB members to obtain information about their colleagues who had committed heinous and barbaric acts against TNI-Polri soldiers and civilians in the area,” said Arebo.
“That means it has something to do with shooting the TNI, so it’s appropriate, not torturing civilians. “The public should look at the problem well,” he continued.
Arebo said that the Commander of the XVII/Cenderawasih Military District does not need to worry and does not need to respond to the public’s negative news about soldiers in its territory.
This is because legal action against the KKB is an effort by the TNI to defend the territory of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia.
“I ask the Cenderawasih Military Commander not to respond to anything that discredits the TNI-Polri,” he concluded.
