Jayapura- Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri expressed his appreciation to the people of the Land of Papua for holding the 2024 Election safely and conducively.
“I would like to thank religious leaders, the community and all parties including journalists for holding the elections safely,” said the Papua Police Chief.
He admitted that compared to the 2014 and 2019 elections, the 2024 election took place without significant security disturbances because only one area experienced disturbances that resulted in casualties.
It is true that from 29 districts and cities spread across four provinces, Puncak Jaya Regency was recorded as the case that resulted in casualties as a result of the election due to mutual attacks between candidates supporting legislative members.
“Thank God, the elections for the election of legislative members as well as President and Vice President in the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police ran safely, even if there were disturbances, they could be resolved immediately,” he said.
Furthermore, the role of figures, especially religious figures and journalists, is very important in creating peace in the Land of Papua.
Journalists during elections always report actual and refreshing news that has an impact on security.
The Papua Police Chief hopes that the already conducive security situation can continue to be maintained until the regional head elections are held next November.
“Let’s work together to maintain the security situation in the Land of Papua so that it remains conducive,” said Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri.
