
Jayapura – Police in Papua identified the perpetrator of the shooting that killed two National Police personnel in Baya Biru District, Paniai, as the Aibon Kogoya group. Head of the Public Relations Division of the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner (Kombes) Ignatius Benny, said that the group who shot Bripda Arnaldobert and Bripda Sandi Defrit were armed separatists operating in the Central Papua region.
Commissioner Benny emphasized that the entire team from the Papua Regional Police, including the Cartenz Peace Task Force, is currently on a search mission to hunt down the Aibon Kogoya group. “The attack was carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Aibon Kogoya,” said Commissioner Benny.
“We (the police) will pursue the perpetrators of the shooting which resulted in the death of two National Police personnel to take responsibility for the shooting,” said Commissioner Benny.
The Papua Police, said Commissioner Benny, have also ordered the Paniai Police Chief AKBP Abdus Syukur Felani to continue hunting the armed separatist group. “The perpetrators of the shooting will be processed in accordance with applicable law,” said Commissioner Benny.
It was reported by Police Chief AKBP Abdus Syukur that the attack by the Free Papua separatist group on police personnel occurred on Wednesday (20/3/2024) morning local time. The attack, he said, occurred when Bripda Arnoldobert and Bripda Sandi Defrit were jointly protecting the helicopter runway or Hellypad 99 in the Baya Biru District area.
