Jayapura-An armed civilian group attacked members of the Ndeotadi 99 Police Post (Pospol) Baya Biru District, Paniai Regency, Wednesday (20/3/2024) at around 08.00 WIB. The attack was carried out by shooting members who were on guard.
“In this incident, two of our members, Bripda Arnaldobert and Bripda Sandi Defrit, died in the line of duty,” explained the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo in a written statement.
The Head of Public Relations explained that the KKB which carried out the attack was allegedly led by Aibon Kogoya. The incident occurred when personnel were providing security for Hellypad 99.
“The incident started when our personnel were carrying out security at Hellypad 99, suddenly several shots were heard from the east which caused us to lose two personnel and two AK-47 rifles were stolen,” he said.
As a result of this incident, said the Head of Public Relations, two members died in the line of duty.
Paniai Police Chief AKBP Abdus Syukur Felani stated that he was conducting a search and investigation regarding the case. Strict action will be taken against the perpetrators or groups responsible for the attack.
“We will pursue the perpetrator or group responsible for this action. They will be processed in accordance with applicable law. We are also increasing security at all points in Paniai Regency to avoid unwanted incidents,” explained the Police Chief.
