Jayapura, – Papuan religious figure, Pastor Benny Giay, invited all Papuan people to guard and oversee the 2024 election process which has now entered the plenary meeting stage at the district and provincial levels.
Giay emphasized the importance of public participation in ensuring the smoothness and transparency of the election process.
“The Papuan people, especially religious communities, must take an active role in overseeing this election process. Let us guard and supervise together so that the election runs safely, peacefully and fairly,” said Giay, Saturday (9/3).
Giay appealed to the public not to be easily provoked by issues that could disrupt the course of the election. He also asked the public to report to the authorities if they found fraud or violations in the election process.
“The public must be intelligent and critical in receiving information. Don’t be easily incited by irresponsible issues,” he said.
Giay believes that the Papuan people can maintain and oversee the election process well. He hopes that the 2024 election can produce quality leaders and bring progress to Papua.
“Let’s show that religious communities in Papua are capable of being agents of peace and democracy in this election,” continued Giay.
Previously, a number of other Papuan religious figures had also called on the public to protect and oversee the election process. They emphasized the importance of peaceful and democratic elections for a better future for Papua.
