Jayapura – Yahukimo Resort Police is prioritizing handling the shooting case of the Wings Air IW 1646 ATR 700 PK WGT aircraft during the landing process at Nop Goliat Dekai Airport, Yahukimo Regency, on Saturday (17/02).

“The information we received stated that the plane was hit by gunfire on the left side, which penetrated the fuselage. Although there were no casualties, the passenger named Pratu Ongen suffered abrasions due to being hit by fragments of the plane’s wall,” explained Police Commissioner. Benny.
Security officers from the Cartenz 2024 Peace Operation together with Brimob Yon D personnel and Yahukimo Police are currently conducting searches around the Kali Brasa area at the end of the airport, which is suspected to be the location of the shooting.
“We have carried out a crime scene investigation (TKP) and asked for information from the flight crew. We are also coordinating with related parties to follow up on this case and pursue the shooter,” he added.
This case is of serious concern to the authorities, and investigations and law enforcement efforts continue to be carried out to uncover the motive and identify the perpetrator of the shooting in order to maintain aviation security in the region.
