Jayapura – The Wamenan Class IIA District Court, Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, on Monday (12/2/2024) read out the decision of the defendant in the name of Penihas Heluka alias Kopi Tua Heluka, who was legally proven to have committed the crime of premeditated murder and crimes in public.
This case emerged on November 4 2022, when Penihas Heluka was involved in the murder case of Pratu Eka Johan Kaize at the Regional Government Corporation. The trial decision was read out by the Chief Judge on Wednesday, February 7 2024.
In a statement obtained from the Head of the Cartenz 2024 Peace Public Relations Task Force, AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., Thursday (8/2/2024). Penihas Heluka, who is the Commander of the Yamue Kodap XVI Yahukimo Battalion led by Elkius Kobak, was arrested on May 19 2023 in Jayapura City. The case handling process was continued by the Investigation Sub-Task Force-Gakkum Peace Ops Cartenz Task Force.
The identity of the defendant, Penihas Heluka alias Kopi Tua Heluka (23 years), emerged in a series of trials starting on November 6 2023, with the agenda of reading the indictment. And on Wednesday, February 7 2024, the trial verdict was read out, and Penihas Heluka alias Kopi Tua Heluka was sentenced to 13 (thirteen) years in prison.
“Traces of involvement in criminal acts described in the trial include the involvement of Penihas Heluka in several cases of murder and shooting, including Private Eka Johan Kaize, Brigadier Usdar in front of the Dekai unit of BRI Bank, and the shooting of Brimob personnel in the Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency,” said Head of Public Relations Task Force.
Kasatgas also emphasized that this decision was a significant step in maintaining security and justice in the region. “With the verdict handed down, we hope to provide a sense of justice to the victim and the surrounding community,” said AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno.
This decision confirms legal responsibility for criminal acts committed by Penihas Heluka aka Kopi Tua Heluka, as a form of law enforcement in society.
