Papua Regional Police Chief Reveals Final Condition of Pilot Susi Air 11 Months Held Hostage by KKB

Jayapura – Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens is still being held hostage by the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya. Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri revealed the latest condition of the New Zealand pilot.

“Yes, healthy, that’s how it looks in the photo,” said Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri to journalists in Jayapura City, Thursday (4/1/2024).

Inspector General Mathius said that the negotiation process for the pilot who had been held hostage since February 7 2023 was still ongoing. He admitted that he did not want to intervene in the negotiation process and left it to community shops.

“I still trust the figures who have been working hard all this time. I don’t want to intervene. Hopefully we can get the best results,” he said.

He added that the negotiators always provided the latest information regarding the pilot’s condition. Including regarding handling during the release process later.

“Of course, we are always given information about how to handle it,” he added.

It is known that a recent photo of Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens has been circulating on social media, who has been held hostage by an armed criminal group (KKB) for 10 months. The photo shows Captain Philip with KKB leader Egianus Kogoya.
