The authorities confiscated 32 rifles and 1,279 ammunition belonging to KKB, there were smuggled from abroad

Jayapura – Police officers in Papua have succeeded in confiscating 32 firearms and 1,279 ammunition belonging to the armed criminal group or KKB which often acts brutally.

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri revealed that the KKB obtained the rifles and thousands of ammunition by confiscating them or buying them from unscrupulous officers.

“There are weapons belonging to the TNI and Polri, some are even smuggled in from abroad,” said Fakhiri in Jayapura.

The KKB in 2024 will still pose a serious threat to the stability of social security and order in Papua. Throughout 2023 alone, KKB will carry out hundreds of actions.

“In 2023, the KKB in Papua has carried out 196 actions,” he said.

Fakhiri added that the KKB actions throughout 2023 caused 63 people to die. Apart from that, KKB’s actions also resulted in 81 people being injured, while 1 foreign citizen is still a hostage.

The policeman, who had a long career in the Brimob Corps, detailed that TNI casualties reached 23 people, while 24 soldiers were injured.

The death toll from the National Police reached three people. Seven members of the National Police were also injured due to the actions of the KKB.

“37 people died and 50 were injured and one hostage,” he said.
