Jayapura – Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom., reminded the public to maintain peace, security and public order (kamtibmas) and remain orderly after the funeral of the former governor of Papua, the late Lukas Enembe. The deceased’s body is planned to be buried today at his residence in Central Koya, Friday (29/12/2023).
In his statement, Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said that the situation in Jayapura City is currently conducive, and security forces have provided maximum security during the funeral procession.
“We appeal to the public to maintain order and not take steps that could damage the atmosphere of harmony in the land of Papua. Security and peace are a shared responsibility, and we will continue to coordinate with related parties to maintain stability in this area,” he said.
Furthermore, Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo emphasized that the police are ready to take firm action against anyone who carries out actions that could disturb public order. “We will not hesitate to act in accordance with the law if someone tries to damage the security and order that we have created,” he stressed.
The Papua Regional Police also invites the public to actively provide information to security forces if they know of potential riots or other disturbances to social security and order. “We really hope for cooperation from all levels of society to maintain security and order together,” added Police Commissioner. “Currently the Jayapura City Police have also prepared 9 TNI-Polri trucks to help people who attended the funeral return to the Waena, Sentani and Jayapura City areas so they can return to their homes in an orderly and safe manner,” concluded Commissioner Benny.
