Jayapura – Jayapura Police revealed the motive for burning down a number of government buildings in the Jayapura Regency Regent’s complex, after arresting AR alias Arkis, a 22 year old man who works as a student.
In his press statement, Jayapura Police Chief AKBP Fredrickus W.A Maclarimboen said Arki carried out his action because he was hurt by government policy.
“In his investigation, the suspect did not say whether he was hurt by the central, provincial or district government,” he explained.
The police have named Arki as a suspect in the burning of the Jayapura Regency Ministry of Religion office, Building A and 1 excavator unit on Jalan Kemiri Sentani.
It is known that Arki is a student at a university who has been registered since 2018. Arki also always changes his residence, making investigations difficult.
“The suspect is involved in the KNPB Sentani organization, carrying out a role as a KNPB militant in Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency,” said the Police Chief.
Arki was arrested on November 24 2023 in the boarding house behind BTN Ceria, Dobonsolo Village, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency by a joint team from the Jayapura Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Papua Police and the Task Force.
“Arki admitted that he committed the arson act alone. “However, this does not rule out the possibility of involvement of other people who are still under investigation,” he said.
By the police, Arki was charged with Article 187 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, the suspect could face a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
