Jayapura – Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin responded to those who believe that the conflict in several regions of Papua is caused by local people’s distrust of the central government. The Vice President stated that persuasive steps through dialogue are the best way to find solutions to conflict management.
“I think we are trying to eliminate this distrust through dialogue with religious figures, human rights figures, human rights activists, traditional figures and various parties,” said Kiai Ma’ruf in his statement quoted on Wednesday (11/10/2023) .
Kiai Ma’ruf said, apart from official meetings with stakeholders, the government is also trying to prioritize dialogue with various levels of society.
“There are many things outside of this formal meeting that we can do, some things that we can resolve. Also dialogues at sectoral level. “So, we carry out dialogue on sectoral activities,” he said.
Thus, Kiai Ma’ruf believes that dialogue can be the best solution to find the root of the problem of every conflict and bridge what the Papuan people want.
“Through this, we hope that things that are misunderstandings will disappear. “We will continue to do that (dialogue), wherever it lies (distrust) because what is important is what the Papuan people want,” he said.
