Jayapura – The Papua Police Chief ordered his men to take a firm stand against the KKB terror, including securing underage KKB members.
Several criminal incidents have occurred in Yahukimo District, Papua Mountains, over the last few weeks.
The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) is suspected of being the perpetrator of the shootings and arson in the area.
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fahiri emphasized that the perpetrators must be arrested and undergo the applicable legal process.
According to him, the law enforcement process will be carried out without discrimination, even though the perpetrators are still classified as minors.
“At Yahukimo this keeps repeating itself, but yes I ask the Police Chief to enforce the law, we will still chase the perpetrators. Where are the leaders who have not been arrested, younger siblings or children who have been with the KKB all this time, I ask them to be secured even though they are still young, no need to be afraid,” he said.
KKB is known to often recruit children to commit crimes.
Therefore, Fakhiri ensured that the security forces would not be reckless in enforcing the law.
“If the police make sure he is involved, secure it, there are legal rules that can be used, don’t let it be because of the children, this will continue,” he said.
In addition, it is certain that the security forces will not be careless in responding to criminal reports, especially shootings that are only intended to disturb security.
Faakhiri said that the KKB often deliberately provoked the security forces to chase them and then attacked them from various directions.
He does not want any careless actions from his personnel which could lead to loss of life to material.
“I have asked members not to be provoked because personal safety is important, if we chase them later in Sanggong, there will be casualties, weapons and ammunition lost. I have reminded all of your staff, including the TNI who are in the Daai Cartenz Task Force to really carefully assess the existing situation,” said Fahiri.
