The role of the Cartenz Damai Task Force in the release of the Susi Air pilot, said the regional police chief

Jayapura – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri revealed the role of the TNI-Polri and the Cartenz Damai Task Force in efforts to free Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens who was held hostage by the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya and emphasized that the negotiation process was still ongoing.

“I, Mr. Military Commander, our job is to carry out negotiations and the task of enforcing the law will be played by the Cartenz Peace Task Force,” said Inspector General Mathius D. Fahiri, Monday (14/8).

His party also said that the Nduga Regency Government and the Papua Mountains Provincial Government must also take the role of negotiating and the negotiation process also involved the extended family of Egianus Kogoya.

“We provide the widest possible space for all parties, both the regional government, that is the provincial government, the Nduga Regency Government and all extended families who have Nduga people and their families close to them,” he said.

He emphasized that all parties would be mobilized to support efforts to free the pilot from New Zealand. Community leaders, religious leaders, and women leaders were also involved in the negotiation process.

“So that everything that is expected by the families of the pilots and us elements of the government can be delivered properly,” explained Mathius.

He is optimistic that the negotiation process will run smoothly. Mathius hopes that the Susi Air pilot will be released by the KKB soon in good health.

“Hopefully he is in good health, he will return to his family and us. Of course, that will also be part of the law enforcement problem,” he added.
