Mediation Successful, Social Conflict Resolution in Kenyam City, Nduga Regency, Papua Mountains

Jayapura – Mediation to resolve social conflicts that occurred in Kenyam City, Nduga Regency, Mountainous Papua Province was successfully implemented. This activity was led by Nduga Police Chief Kompol Visensius Jimmy Parapaga, S.Ik, Wednesday (19(/7/2023).

A number of figures who attended this mediation activity were the Dansatgas Pamtas Mobile Yonif R 411 / PDW, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Subandi Alex, Chairman of the Nduga Regency DPRD, Ikabus Gwijangge, Head of Nduga Regency Communication and Information, Otomi Gwijangge, and Members of the Nduga Regency DPRD, Rumus Ubruangge, and Ronal Dinal Kalnea. This activity was also attended by the Secretary of Nduga Regency, Namia Gwijangge, S.pd, M.Si, and Assistant 2 of Nduga Regency, Nhatal Sasamtea, ST, along with various community representatives, religious leaders, and women leaders.

The mediation activity began with a prayer led by Rev. Bertha Kogoya, S.Th, Pastor of Kingmi Jerusalem Church Kenyam. During the activity, various parties provided views and responses related to the conflict that occurred, emphasizing the importance of peace and unity in the Nduga Regency area.

The Nduga District Secretary, Namia Gwijangge, emphasized the importance of resolving the issue, and reminded that regional progress depends on cooperation and peace among its citizens.

He also emphasized that murder is a crime forbidden by God, and invited the community to think of the next generation who will continue the development of the region.

“The parties agreed to resolve the conflict by peaceful means and committed to no longer engage in acts of war. Representatives of the families of victims and perpetrators also handed over tools such as arrows and machetes as a symbol of peace,” he said.

The Nduga Regency Government provided a compensation fund of Rp. 2.5 billion to the victims and perpetrators to help overcome the impact of the conflict. In addition, village heads are also reminded to play an active role in solving problems in their areas.

With the success of this mediation, the community hopes that the situation in Kenyam City and its surroundings can return to being safe and conducive to development and daily life. This mediation activity also serves as an example of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and with deliberation, to achieve peace and regional progress.

The resolution of the conflict was marked by the signing of an agreement by the government, security forces, leaders and representatives of each party.

Head of Papua Police Public Relations Kombes Pol Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, SH. S.IK. M.Kom said, with the support and cooperation of all parties, the mediation carried out today can run well and both parties and all elements of society agree that the resolution of the conflict that occurred can be resolved by peaceful means.

“We ask all residents in Nduga Regency to support the Government and security forces in maintaining a safe and conducive Kamtibmas situation so that the wheels of the economy and development in all fields can run well in order to prosper the citizens,” said Kombes Benny.
