Papua Police Chief: Captain Philips’ Release Process Can Run Safely and Peacefully

Jayapura – Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fahiri believes that the process of releasing the Susi Air pilot will run smoothly. According to him, until now all parties, both TNI-Polri and leaders have worked hard and the results will definitely be good.

“I believe that the process of releasing Captain Philips can proceed safely and peacefully and the negotiations that we are currently carrying out can be successful,” said Inspector General Faakhiri after the ceremony celebrating the 77th Bhayangkara Anniversary at the Papua Police Headquarters, Saturday (1/7/2023)

According to the Regional Police Chief, Egianus Kogoya is an Indigenous Papuan who is also human and has a conscience, so he is sure that Egianus will release Captain Philips.

“I believe that Egianus as a Papuan, as a child of a country who loves peace and humanity must have a conscience, because we Papuans are full of compassion and I believe Egianus also has that,” said Kapolda Faakhiri.

Fakhiri said that since February 7, 2023, when Captain Philips was held hostage by Egianus and his group, all parties had worked hard.

“Until now, I see that all the figures have worked, we are the TNI-Polri, traditional leaders, religion, and even Egianus’ close family, we are also involved in the process of releasing Captain Philips. I am sure that all of our hard work and good intentions will bear sweet fruit. ” concluded Inspector General Fahiri.

The case of captain Philips taking hostage itself began on February 7 2023. The Susi Air pilot, a New Zealand national, was taken hostage by KKB Egianus Kogoya after the plane he was piloting landed at Paro airport, Nduga Regency.
