In the 4th Month of the Susi Air Pilot Hostage, the Papua Police Continues to Advance Negotiations to Release the Pilot

Timika – Entering the 4th Month, Pilot Susi Air Capt. Philip Mark Merthens, the Papua Regional Police are still prioritizing negotiations to free Pilot Susi Air from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya in Kab. Nduga, Papua Mountains, Saturday (10/07/2023).

Kabid Humas Polda Papua Kombes Pol Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said the joint TNI-POLRI apparatus was still seeking the release of the Susi Air pilot, captain Philip Mark Mehrtens, through negotiations.

“Since being held hostage by the KKB, until now it has been about 4 months since the TNI and POLRI together with the regional government, we are still trying to negotiate with Egianus Kogoya,” said Benny.

His party also revealed that there were obstacles in the negotiations carried out by the TNI-Polri officers of the Cartenz Peace Task Force against the KKB group.

“The obstacle is that the group is difficult to open communication for negotiations, that’s why the process is dragging on, but we prioritize the safety of the Susi Air pilot,” he added.

Previously, the Chairperson of the Central Papua Mimika Early Community Awareness Forum (FKDM) Luki Makahena, S.Sos., M.Si invited all Traditional Leaders, Religious Leaders in Papua who have local communications to establish communication with the Egianus Kogoya Group so that they can return Pilot Susi Air who is being held hostage.
