Jayapura – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin opened his voice after the TNI-Polri apparatus to date have not succeeded in freeing Susi Air pilot Philip Mark, who was held hostage by the West Papua National Liberation Army -Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM).
Maruf said the rescue operation required calculations so that the hostage from New Zealand could be saved.
“Yes, of course we have to take into account the operation being carried out so that there are no casualties, how (the hostage) is safe, so the system is not finished off, the earth is scorched,” said Ma’ruf Amin in Jakarta, Friday (26/5/2023).
According to him, operating a scorched earth system or attacking with full force might be easily carried out by the security forces. However, the hostages may become victims of the ferocity of the residents who want an independent Papua.
“Maybe, if it’s like that it’s easy; but how the operation is carried out safely, (the hostages) can be saved, but it doesn’t cause many victims; and I think that (rescue) will take quite a long time,” he explained.
According to Maruf, the government and security forces have communicated with figures in Papua, including church leaders there, to help free the hostages.
“It has been in communication with the church and especially local traditional leaders, involved in operations in Papua. Like those who were rescued yesterday, who have been taken hostage (BTS tower workers), (there is) involvement of church figures there. ,” said Mauf.
