Inspector General Fakhiri: Polri will recruit 2,000 Papuan youth to become non-commissioned officers

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri

JAYAPURA – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri said that the National Police, through the Papua Regional Police, would recruit 2,000 young people to become non-commissioned officers to be placed at the police station.

Acceptance for 2,000 youth from four provinces in the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police. The opening of non-commissioned officers will be held next April.

“Therefore, at every opportunity we ask community, traditional and religious leaders to prepare young people who want to become members of the National Police,” said Inspector General Fakhiri, Friday (29/3).

On every occasion, Inspector General Fakhiri conveyed about the recruitment, including when meeting with ondoafi (traditional leaders) and community leaders in Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Thursday evening.

Inspector General Fakhiri has asked ondoafi and community leaders to prepare children who want to become police. This is because acceptance is prioritized for native Papuans or children born and raised in Papua.

The criteria are prioritized because after undergoing education and stabilization, they will be placed in police stations in three new autonomous regions (DOB), such as the Provinces of Mountainous Papua, Central Papua and South Papua.

“Apart from that, with another aim, namely that after serving as a police officer, he no longer applied to move out of Papua, causing the number of members to decrease,” said Inspector General Fakhiri.

The two-star general admitted that if we calculated the ratio between the number of Polri members and the population, it would be sufficient.

However, due to the large area, this number is still not sufficient.
Moreover, in the future there will be the formation of new Regional Police in the three DOBs so that personnel will be needed.

The opening of non-commissioned officers will be held next April.

All financing during education will be borne by the National Police Headquarters.

They will be educated at pusdik on the island of Java.

After undergoing education, they will undergo consolidation at the regional police on Java Island before being returned to the Papua Regional Police to be placed in the regional police stations.

“Hopefully the increasing number of National Police members in Papua can provide a sense of security to the community,” said Regional Police Chief Inspector General Fakhiri.
