Chairman of BMA Central Papua Urges Public Support for National Strategic Projects and Maintaining Public Order in Nabire

Nabire — Chairman of the Central Papua Indigenous Council (BMA), Melkisedek Rumawi, called on the public to support Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects (PSN) and to help maintain security and public order (Kamtibmas) in Nabire. His remarks were delivered during a public outreach event held in the city.

Rumawi stressed that PSN serves as a development compass for Indonesia, a collective agenda that must be realized together. He emphasized that the projects listed under PSN are not merely figures on paper, but a grand blueprint designed to drive national progress, equality, and prosperity — including for communities in Papua.

According to him, PSN includes major initiatives such as connectivity infrastructure, energy distribution, food security, digital transformation, and the development of high-quality human resources. He encouraged Papuans to play an active role not only in the planning stage, but also in ensuring that project implementation remains accurate, responsible, and impactful.

“PSN is the real manifestation of our national aspirations. It is a shared effort to leap forward and ensure Indonesia stands on equal footing with developed countries,” Rumawi stated.

He outlined three key reasons why the implementation of PSN in Papua is crucial:

  1. Projects such as the Trans Papua Highway, airports, and industrial zones can become new engines of economic growth and job creation.
  2. Balanced development reaching remote areas ensures social justice for all citizens.
  3. Modern infrastructure combined with highly skilled Papuan human resources will strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Rumawi emphasized that support for PSN is not solely the responsibility of the central government. He stated that all community members play an important role through efficient licensing processes, smooth land acquisition, and regional policies that align with national priorities. He encouraged communities to seize investment opportunities, participate with integrity, and constructively monitor project execution.

Beyond PSN, Rumawi urged the people of Nabire to safeguard public security and order in support of a peaceful and stable environment, particularly as Nabire serves as the capital of Central Papua. He also expressed support for other national initiatives, including the Free Nutritious Meal Program and the Merah Putih Cooperative movement.

As part of the event, the Chairman of BMA Central Papua distributed 60 food packages to participants as an act of social solidarity.
