JAYAPURA — As a gesture of nationwide solidarity, the Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua) held a collective prayer for the victims of flash floods and landslides that struck several regions in Sumatra. The activity, conducted on Monday (1/12), symbolizes the strong sense of unity shared by Indonesians, despite the vast distance separating the regions.
The gathering began with the Dzuhur prayer, followed by a congregational Sholat Ghaib at two locations: Al-Mu’minun Mosque at the Papua Police Headquarters in Jayapura and Al-Muttaqin Prayer Room at the Papua Police facility in Koya Koso. After the prayers, officers continued with zikir and supplications for the safety and resilience of communities affected by the disaster.
Muhammad Sobari, Head of the Civil Service Subdivision at the Human Resources Bureau of Polda Papua, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. He emphasized that Polda Papua shares the same grief, even from the far eastern end of Indonesia.
“We pray that those who lost their lives will be granted the best place by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, and that their good deeds are accepted. For the families left behind, may they be given strength and patience,” Sobari said.
He also extended prayers for the military, police, and volunteers currently working on rescue and emergency response efforts at the disaster sites.
“May all personnel on the ground be blessed with health, safety, and strength as they carry out their humanitarian duties,” he added.
Through this prayer gathering, Polda Papua reaffirms that compassion knows no boundaries. The grief felt in Sumatra is shared across the nation, and from Papua, heartfelt prayers are sent for swift recovery and renewed strength for all affected communities.
