Jakarta – Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, Romy Soekarno, emphasized the importance of accelerating development in the four New Autonomous Regions (DOB) in Papua. He asserted that the state must ensure every policy taken reflects justice and promotes the welfare of the Papuan people.
Romy conveyed this statement during an evaluation meeting between the Minister of Home Affairs and Commission II of the DPR RI on Wednesday (July 2, 2025). According to him, the issue of development in Papua goes beyond numbers and statistics—it is a matter of justice, humanity, and national commitment.
“This is not just about data or figures. It is a call of conscience as a nation. We must ensure that every policy made and every rupiah allocated to Papua truly reflects a sense of justice and sincere empathy,” Romy stated.
He called on the government to initiate breakthroughs so that development in the newly formed provinces can progress more rapidly and equitably, ultimately improving the welfare of the people in the Land of Papua.
