Security Disruption Occurs Again at Ilaga Airport; Quick Response by Ops Damai Cartenz and TNI Restores Safety

Puncak, Papua — The atmosphere at Aminggaru Ilaga Airport has once again been marred by security disturbances. On Wednesday morning (June 18, 2025), two gunfire sounds were heard, suspected to be carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Omukia led by Jeki Murib from the forested areas around Aminggaru Airport, Omukia District, Puncak Regency.

The first gunshot from the KKB was heard at 07:35 WIT. Immediately, the Kopasgat TNI coordinated via HT radio with the Ops Damai Cartenz personnel to respond. Subsequently, personnel from Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, along with Kopasgat TNI personnel, conducted monitoring and patrols around the forested areas near Aminggaru Airport. During these efforts, three members of Jeki Murib’s KKB group were identified, armed with two long firearms, M16 and AK-47, and one handgun. Around 08:00 to 09:30, a firefight ensued between Kopasgat TNI and Ops Damai Cartenz personnel and the armed group (KKB) led by Jeki Murib. After the firefight, personnel from Kopasgat TNI and Ops Damai Cartenz conducted further patrols around the forested areas near the airport, confirming that the situation at Aminggaru Airport is now under control and safe.

The Operations Commander of Damai Cartenz, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by the Deputy Operations Commander, Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that armed disturbances in vital areas such as airports are serious crimes that will not be tolerated.

“We will not give space to armed groups disturbing peace and safety for the people of Papua. Legal action will be taken in a measured and professional manner,” Brig. Gen. Faizal emphasized.

He also assured that all personnel on the ground responded quickly and that the situation is now under control.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Task Force of Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo, S.H., S.I.K., reiterated that although gunfire occurred twice, it did not disrupt airport activities overall.

“Despite the two gunfire incidents this morning, we assure there were no casualties or material losses. Flight operations continued safely until the last scheduled flight at 11:00 WIT. Regular flight schedules will return to normal as usual,” explained Kombes Yusuf.

He also urged the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by unverified information circulating on social media.

Security forces from Kopasgat TNI and personnel of Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 remain fully alert on the ground to ensure that Aminggaru Ilaga Airport remains safe and conducive.
