Wamena – The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Highlands Province, has partnered with the motorcycle taxi (ojek) community as a strategic partner in supporting efforts to maintain cleanliness and environmental order throughout Wamena City.
The collaboration was marked by the distribution of cleaning equipment to several motorcycle taxi bases across the city. The initiative is part of the local government’s program to encourage greater community participation in creating a clean, healthy, and comfortable environment.
Jayawijaya Regent, Atenius Murib, stated that maintaining urban cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the government but requires active involvement from all segments of society, including motorcycle taxi drivers who interact with residents on a daily basis.
“Motorcycle taxi drivers play an important role because their activities reach almost every corner of the city. We hope they can become role models and motivate others to maintain cleanliness around their bases and operational areas,” he said.
According to Murib, the involvement of the motorcycle taxi community is expected to strengthen public awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness as part of broader efforts to create a well-organized and comfortable city for everyone.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Jayawijaya Environmental Agency, dr. Idawati Waromi, explained that motorcycle taxi drivers have close interactions with the community, making them effective partners in promoting environmental cleanliness and public awareness.
She expressed hope that the collaboration would not only improve cleanliness around motorcycle taxi bases but also help foster a stronger culture of environmental responsibility among residents.
Through this initiative, the Jayawijaya Regency Government reaffirmed its commitment to building partnerships with various community groups in order to realize a cleaner, healthier, and more livable Wamena.
