Red and White Fishermen’s Village Becomes a Symbol of Papua’s Progress in Supiori Regency

Jayapura, Papua – The Papua Provincial Government continues to promote community-based development as part of efforts to accelerate progress in coastal areas. One of the concrete initiatives is the construction of the Red and White Fishermen’s Village in Marsram Village, Supiori Regency, which is expected to become a new center of economic growth for local communities in Papua.

Papua Governor Mathius D Fakhiri expressed his optimism that the program initiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, will have a positive impact on the welfare of coastal communities, particularly fishermen in Supiori Regency.

According to the Governor, the Red and White Fishermen’s Village is not merely a fisheries development project, but also a symbol of Papua’s progress through strengthening the community’s economy from the family level to the village level.

“When family economies grow, villages will develop, districts will become stronger, and the impact will also be felt at the regency and provincial levels,” the Governor stated in Jayapura on Saturday.

The integrated fishermen’s area is also considered to have strong potential to support the tourism sector, especially marine tourism in Supiori Regency. The beauty of the coastal region and the abundance of marine resources are important assets that can attract economic activity and tourism to the area.

The Papua Provincial Government together with the regency administration has conducted a direct inspection of Marsram Village to ensure the readiness of the development project. As part of the development plan, the government will provide supporting infrastructure, including road access, to improve connectivity and facilitate community activities.

In addition to improving the economic conditions of fishermen, the project is expected to create new business opportunities for local residents, ranging from trade and services to the development of local tourism.

The Governor also invited the community to support the development process for the advancement of the region. He emphasized that the government respects the rights of indigenous communities and does not take ownership of customary land.

“We are here to build for the benefit of the people so that the advantages of development can be enjoyed together and become a concrete step toward a more advanced and prosperous Papua,” he said.

Through the development of the Red and White Fishermen’s Village, the Papua Provincial Government hopes that Supiori Regency will emerge as one of the leading coastal areas capable of strengthening the local economy while reflecting Papua’s progress across various sectors of development.
