ILAGA, Central Papua — As Indonesia prepares to commemorate Human Rights Day on December 10, 2025, community leaders in Puncak Regency are calling on residents to maintain peace and unity amid concerns over the spread of destabilizing narratives.
Nikolaos Alom, the Tribal Chief of Puncak Regency, issued a public appeal on Thursday (December 4), urging the community to remain vigilant and not be swayed by negative issues often circulated during major national observances. His statement aligns with earlier calls from the Paramount Tribal Chief of Puncak, Daibenus Murib, emphasizing collective responsibility in safeguarding local stability.
“I urge the people of Puncak to maintain security and not be influenced by narratives intended to divide our community,” Nikolaos said in his written statement.
He also highlighted the important role of local leaders, including traditional elders and community figures, in supporting efforts to maintain public order.
Residents are encouraged to work together with authorities to ensure a peaceful environment throughout the regency.
“December is a month of joy. Let us welcome it peacefully without creating unnecessary disturbances,” he added.
Nikolaos stressed that security remains a fundamental pillar for continued development in Puncak Regency.
“I hope the community will not be provoked by misleading information and will help keep the region safe and stable as we approach the year-end celebrations,” he concluded.
