Two Civilians Killed by Unknown Assailants in Yahukimo, Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force Launches Intensive Investigation

Yahukimo – The Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force, together with the Yahukimo District Police, is conducting an intensive investigation into the murder of two agarwood collectors carried out by a group of Unknown Persons (OTK) at a camp in Bor Village, Sumo District, Yahukimo Regency, on Saturday (29/11/2025) at around 18:05 WIT.

The identities of the victims are as follows:

Fatalities:
1. Sugianto (43)
2. Hardiyanto (39)

Survivors:
1. Nur Asyah (wife of the late Sugianto)
2. Alias (relative of Nur Asyah)

According to witness E, at around 18:05 WIT they received a phone call from survivor Alias, who reported an attack against two agarwood workers at the Bor Village Camp. The victims had been living and working at that location for approximately five years along with their families.

Alias explained that earlier in the day, a group of Unknown Persons arrived at the camp and immediately launched an attack using sharp weapons. The victims attempted to flee with their families, but two of them were unable to escape and were ultimately killed.

At 21:30 WIT, Alias phoned witness E again to report that the bodies of the two victims were being evacuated via fiber boat from Bor Village to Agats City, Asmat Regency, with an estimated travel time of around seven hours.

All four victims are members of the same family residing in Agats City, Asmat Regency. In addition to working as agarwood collectors, the family also operated a small grocery kiosk in Bor Village. As of now, all victims—both deceased and survivors—have been evacuated to Agats City.

The Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that personnel have been deployed to conduct further investigation at the scene.

“Teams have begun carrying out a series of investigative measures, starting with gathering witness statements, conducting crime scene examination, and expanding information on the perpetrators and their motives. We are committed to uncovering this case and ensuring the safety of the community,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operation, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum, emphasized that strengthening personnel presence in vulnerable areas remains a priority.

“Patrols and monitoring of community movement routes have been intensified. Coordination with Yahukimo District Police continues to maintain security stability following the incident,” he said.

The Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force extends its deepest condolences for the loss of the two victims in this incident. The Task Force hopes that the bereaved families are granted strength and resilience, and that the victims rest in peace in the presence of God Almighty. The Task Force also ensures that law enforcement efforts will continue until the perpetrators are apprehended.
