Agustinus Kres: “We Reject Conflict, December 1 Must Remain Peaceful”

Jayapura — Ahead of the December 1, 2025 momentum, the Commander of TPNPB Kodap 1 Mamta, Agustinus Kres, issued a firm statement that has stirred the dynamics within pro–Papua Independence groups. He strongly rejected the circulation of a travel authorization letter allegedly issued by a group claiming to be the West Papua Army (WPA), asserting that the Kodap 1 Mamta territory cannot be used, controlled, or entered unilaterally by any group.

Agustinus emphasized that his command never knew of, received, let alone approved any document related to mass mobilization currently circulating ahead of December 1.

“That document is not from us! Anyone acting in the name of Kodap 1 Mamta without permission is considered illegitimate and in violation of customary rules,” he asserted.

He underlined that the Mamta region, stretching from Mamberamo to Tami, is a PEACE ZONE where communities must live securely without interference from external armed groups. Agustinus stressed that they strictly forbid the entry of other Kodap units, armed groups, political organizations, or any parties seeking to exploit the pre–December 1 situation to incite conflict.

“No armed clashes, no additional movements! Anyone with a political agenda on this land must first seek permission from the customary landowners. You cannot come and seize someone’s territory just to create chaos,” he said.

He also warned that the Papua independence struggle must be pursued peacefully, not through armed actions. Agustinus said his stance is rooted in the principles of July 1, 1971 and the peace commitments he has built with international representatives.

Furthermore, Agustinus urged all Papuans, both at home and abroad, to avoid provocations, reject illegal mobilization calls, and ensure that the Mamta region remains calm ahead of December 1. According to him, Kodap 1 Mamta will issue an official statement via video to prevent irresponsible parties from misusing the organization’s name.

With this firm stance, Kodap 1 Mamta positions itself as a guardian of peace along the Indonesia–PNG border and declares its rejection of all forms of armed actions, mass mobilization, or provocations that could disrupt public order.
