Jayapura – The Governor of Papua, Mathius Fakhiri, emphasized that the utilization of local potential is the main strategy in accelerating regional development in the midst of limited budgets owned by the provincial government.
This matter was conveyed by Governor Fakhiri when giving information in Jayapura. He assessed, development based on local strength and potential is the most realistic step to ensure that the benefits of development can be felt directly by the Papuan people in each region.
“This approach is considered as a realistic step to ensure that the benefits of development are felt directly by the Papuan people,” he said.
According to Fakhiri, each region in Papua has different superior characteristics and potentials, ranging from agricultural products, fisheries, handicrafts, to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are able to sustain the economy of the local community. Therefore, local governments are encouraged to explore and develop the existing local potential optimally.
“We must encourage the region to be able to manage the resources it has. That way, development not only depends on funds from the center, but also grows from the strength of the community itself,” he added.
Governor Fakhiri emphasized that collaboration between local governments, business actors, and the community is the key to creating sustainable development. He also hopes that every government program can be adjusted to the needs and local wisdom, so that the results really have an impact on the welfare of the community.
“The development of Papua must be rooted in local strength, because that is where our independence and superiority lie,” he said.
The policy that emphasizes the development of local potential is in line with the vision of the Papua Provincial Government to realize inclusive, fair, and sustainable development, as well as empowering the community to become the main actors in the progress of their own region.
