Yahukimo — Personnel from the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, in coordination with the Yahukimo Resort Police, responded swiftly to an aggravated assault case involving a civilian identified as Ambotang (52), a member of the Bugis ethnic group who works as an entrepreneur and resides on Jalan Sosial, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency.
The incident occurred at the Pasar Baru intersection, Jalan Sosial, Dekai, on Wednesday evening (October 22, 2025) around 6:45 p.m. WIT, and is suspected to have been carried out by sympathizers of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) claiming affiliation with Kodap XVI Yahukimo.
The victim sustained serious injuries to his left neck, left elbow, and left ribs after being attacked with a sharp weapon, believed to be an axe. Upon receiving a report via radio communication, the joint task force immediately deployed to the scene, evacuated the victim, and transported him to Dekai Regional General Hospital (RSUD Dekai). The victim is currently conscious but remains in a state of severe shock.
According to witness statements, the attack occurred suddenly while the victim was sitting in front of his kiosk. Two assailants, believed to be local residents of Yahukimo, fled toward Jalan Sosial Kalibonto after committing the assault. At the scene, officers secured several pieces of evidence, including an axe used by the perpetrators and a pair of white-and-blue sandals.
Based on preliminary analysis, the act was allegedly intended to demonstrate the group’s existence and disrupt public security in Yahukimo.
The Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., strongly condemned the act of violence.
“We firmly state that such brutal acts against civilians cannot be tolerated. Preliminary findings suggest that the perpetrators are linked to sympathizers of KKB Kodap XVI Yahukimo,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that security forces will continue to strengthen patrols and monitoring at several strategic locations to ensure public safety.
“The state must not lose to terror. We guarantee that the community will remain safe and protected,” he asserted.
The situation in Dekai is currently reported to be safe and under control. The joint task force continues to conduct investigations and gather further information from witnesses at the scene.
The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force urges the public to remain alert, avoid provocation, and immediately report any suspicious activities or unknown individuals in their surroundings.
