Jayawijaya Police Foil Marijuana Distribution, Arrest Two Men in Wamena

Wamena, Papua Highlands — The Jayawijaya Police successfully thwarted an attempt to distribute marijuana in Wamena City after arresting two young men who were also found carrying sharp weapons, on Friday (October 4, 2025).

Jayawijaya Police Chief AKBP Anak Agung Made Satriya Bimantara stated that the arrests were made during a routine security patrol (known locally as “Cipta Kondisi”) aimed at preventing street crimes in the area.

The two suspects, identified by their initials BK (30) and BK (23), were apprehended while riding a motorcycle through the Wamena urban area.

“During the inspection, officers discovered seven packs of dried marijuana ready for distribution, one pack of marijuana seeds, a machete, and a slingshot. The motorcycle used by the suspects is also suspected to be stolen property,” said the Police Chief.

The suspects, both residents of Asologaima District, initially resisted arrest but were quickly subdued by officers without any injuries. They are currently being held at Jayawijaya Police Headquarters for further investigation and legal processing.

According to AKBP Bimantara, the operation is part of the police’s preventive strategy to curb street crime and the circulation of illegal drugs in Jayawijaya Regency. He also reminded the public not to engage in drug-related activities or carry sharp weapons without legitimate reasons.

“We will continue to maintain public safety and order. The active participation of the community in providing information is crucial to creating a secure environment free from narcotics,” he emphasized.
