Jayapura – Papua youth leader Doni Gobay has called for the importance of maintaining security and fostering peace in Papua. In his statement on Saturday (August 30, 2025), Doni urged the community to remain vigilant amid current developments and not be easily provoked by issues or invitations that could cause harm.
“As youth leaders, we invite the community to continue preserving a conducive environment, especially here in Papua. Even though in Central and Western Indonesia we have seen incidents reported in the media, here in Papua let us be wiser and more discerning in facing the situation,” Doni said.
He emphasized that expressing aspirations remains the right of the people but must be carried out peacefully and with dignity. According to him, the path of violence will only create new problems and bring no benefit to anyone. “If there are efforts that need to be made, we encourage everyone to convey their aspirations peacefully and with dignity,” he added.
Doni also highlighted the surge of provocative content on social media that often influences public opinion. He urged the public to be wiser in responding to circulating videos or images that could divide unity. “It is important to remind everyone to be wise in viewing provocative videos or images. We should avoid responding to matters that may harm us,” he stressed.
Furthermore, Doni underscored that religious values must serve as the foundation for communal life in Papua. He believes that by prioritizing spiritual principles, the shared hope for peace can truly be realized. “We must remember that in Papua we highly value religion. Therefore, let us uphold our faith-based values, which will surely lead us to peace in Papua,” he explained.
In closing, Doni once again called on Papua’s youth to stand at the forefront of safeguarding brotherhood and not be easily swayed by provocations. He stressed that peace can only be achieved if society remains united in the spirit of togetherness. “Once again, we call on all young people in Papua to protect our land with a spirit of brotherhood. Let us not be lured by harmful provocations but instead strive for a peaceful Papua,” he concluded.
Doni Gobay’s appeal highlights the crucial role of the younger generation in preserving social stability and security in Papua, while also reminding communities to exercise wisdom in navigating political dynamics and the flood of information in the digital age.
