Jayapura – Amid the ever-changing social dynamics in Papua, a voice of peace has emerged from the city of Jayapura. The Chairman of the Tabi Indigenous Youth Presidium for Jayapura City, Fran Reynould Thejo, has called on Papuan communities to safeguard peace and public order across the region.
For Fran, this appeal is more than just a call; it is a reflection of collective responsibility. As an anak adat—a son of the land—he believes that preserving security and harmony is part of honoring one’s homeland.
“I urge all Papuans, especially those living in Jayapura City and surrounding areas, to keep our situation safe, peaceful, and conducive,” Fran said.
He also warned of the challenges brought by today’s digital era, where information spreads rapidly and unverified issues can fuel unrest. With this in mind, Fran stressed the importance of being wise and discerning in responding to news and narratives circulating, especially on social media.
Fran’s message was not only directed at the wider public but also at young people, students, as well as traditional and religious leaders. He invited all parties to play their part as guardians of peace in the Land of Cenderawasih.
“We must support one another. The government and security forces cannot work alone. They need the trust and cooperation of the people,” he emphasized.
Fran underlined that keeping Papua safe and harmonious is not solely the duty of the authorities—it is a shared responsibility of all who call this land home.
Through this appeal, he expressed hope that Papua, with its rich culture and history, will continue to be a safe and peaceful home for everyone.
