Jayapura — The Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force successfully apprehended two suspects, Yopi Balingga and Oknis Faluk, for illegal possession of ammunition at Jayapura City Port on Thursday (17/7/2025) at 12:40 PM local time. Following surveillance, the task force identified and secured the suspects along with 16 rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition as evidence.
Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, stated that both suspects are currently undergoing intensive interrogation. This arrest is part of law enforcement’s intensified efforts to combat the circulation of illegal firearms and ammunition in Papua.
“We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the suspects to uncover their network and any possible links to armed criminal groups (KKB) receiving these ammunition supplies,” said Brig. Gen. Faizal Ramadhani in his statement.
Meanwhile, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., Head of Public Relations for Operation Peace Cartenz, urged the public to continue supporting security forces by reporting suspicious activities that could threaten security in Papua.
“We call on the community to work together in maintaining security stability. Public involvement in reporting suspicious activities is crucial to preventing illegal firearms and ammunition smuggling,” he emphasized.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 has pledged to enhance patrols and monitoring, particularly in high-risk maritime routes and ports often used for illegal ammunition distribution. Legal proceedings will be pursued in accordance with applicable laws, including potential charges under emergency regulations concerning unauthorized ammunition possession.
