Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government Urges Indigenous Collaboration for KIPP Development

WAMENA – The Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government has emphasized the importance of collaboration with indigenous landowners in accelerating the development of the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) in Walesi and Wouma Districts, Jayawijaya Regency.

Governor of Papua Pegunungan, John Tabo, stated that although land payments were made in 2024, physical development of the KIPP has been delayed due to additional compensation claims from some residents.

“We urge the indigenous communities in both districts to support this development. The KIPP will become the administrative heart of Papua Pegunungan and is crucial for public service delivery,” Governor Tabo said during an interview in Wamena on Monday (May 5).

He added that the provincial government, along with the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) and the Papuan People’s Representative Council (DPR) of Papua Pegunungan, will continue to work towards resolving the land issues. Once settled, the province will report the readiness of the land to the central government.

“Once the land matters are resolved, we will inform the central government that there are no more obstacles. We hope that the construction budget can be allocated and the work can begin this year,” he said.

The KIPP project is expected to become a milestone in regional development and strengthen the government’s presence in the central highlands of Papua.
