Papua Government Distributes Bonuses to Medal-Winning Athletes from PON and Peparnas

Jayapura – The Provincial Government of Papua officially awarded bonuses to athletes who won medals during the National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional – PON) XXI in Aceh and North Sumatra, as well as the 17th National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo in 2024. The bonuses were presented symbolically by Acting Governor Ramses Limbong at the Papua Provincial State Building in Jayapura on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

During the event, Governor Limbong announced that the total bonus disbursed comes from the 2025 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD), amounting to IDR 25 billion allocated for both PON and Peparnas.

“As we promised earlier, for PON XXI Aceh-Sumut and Peparnas XVII in Solo, the Papua provincial government has allocated a total bonus of IDR 25 billion in the 2025 budget,” he stated to the media following the award ceremony.

Limbong explained that the delay in disbursing the bonuses was due to the need to complete the data of recipients, which would be directly transferred to the respective athlete’s accounts. “The process is done directly to the accounts of the athletes or beneficiaries. This took some time because it needed to meet requirements such as taxpayer identification numbers (NPWP), account numbers, and clear addresses before we could disburse the funds,” he clarified.

The governor hopes that the recipients will accept the bonuses with gratitude, even though the amounts awarded are smaller compared to previous years, given the current tight government budget.

“The bonus amount this time is not the same as what was provided in 2021, considering our current fiscal situation. I hope this does not discourage them, but rather serves as motivation. No matter the amount, if we are grateful, it will surely feel more meaningful,” he emphasized.

In terms of bonus details, individual gold medalists will receive IDR 120 million, while gold medal teams will receive IDR 60 million. Individual silver medalists will get IDR 80 million, and silver medal teams IDR 40 million. Meanwhile, individual bronze medalists will receive IDR 50 million, and bronze medal teams IDR 30 million.

Coaches also receive bonuses, with gold medal coaches getting IDR 35 million, assistant coaches receiving IDR 30 million, and officials getting IDR 15 million. Silver medal coaches will receive IDR 30 million, assistant coaches IDR 25 million, and officials IDR 15 million. For bronze medal coaches, the bonuses are IDR 25 million for coaches, IDR 20 million for assistant coaches, and IDR 15 million for officials.
