JAYAPURA, March 28, 2025 – The Hindu community in Jayapura, Papua, held the Tawur Kesanga ceremony on Friday evening (March 28) at the Pura Agung Surya Bhuana Skyland, as part of their preparations for Nyepi Day, which falls on Saturday (March 29). This important ritual serves as a moment to neutralize negative energies and restore the balance of the universe ahead of the Saka New Year.
I Wayan Wira Adyana, the Hindu Community Leader from the Ministry of Religious Affairs Papua, explained that the ceremony is a time for introspection and self-reflection. “Tawur Kesanga is a time to cleanse the mind of negative elements and restore balance for both humanity and the universe,” said I Wayan Wira Adyana.
The Tawur Kesanga in Jayapura is not just a ritual but also helps the Hindu community to welcome the new year with a clean heart and clear mind. According to I Wayan Wira Adyana, astronomically, Nyepi is considered a zero point, where the sun is positioned exactly on the equator, generating a great amount of energy that needs to be neutralized through this ritual.
“We neutralize negative influences so that physical and spiritual balance can be achieved. This way, the Hindu community can welcome the Saka New Year with hope and renewed energy,” he stated.
This year, the Parisada Hindu Dharma organization has chosen the theme “Serving Others as a Devotion to God,” reflecting the values of simplicity and togetherness. This theme is not only directed at the Hindu community but also carries a universal message to all people to maintain harmony between humanity, nature, and God.
The Tawur Kesanga ceremony in Jayapura serves as an important symbol for the Hindu community in preserving peace and balance in the universe, as well as strengthening the spiritual relationship between humanity and God.
