Papua DPRP Legislators Fully Support Free Nutritious Meals Program for Students in Biak and Supiori

Biak, March 28, 2025 – Legislator from the Gerindra Faction of the Papua Provincial People’s Representative Council (DPRP), Johanes Markus Wakum, continues to support and oversee the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program for students in Biak Numfor and Supiori districts. This program, an initiative by President Prabowo Subianto, aims to ensure that all children in Indonesia, especially in Papua, receive adequate nutrition to support their growth and development.

Speaking at an iftar event in Biak on Friday (March 28), Wakum emphasized the importance of collective support for the MBG program. He highlighted that this program aligns with Indonesia’s vision for 2045, which aims to cultivate a healthy, intelligent, and globally competitive generation.

“The MBG program is a concrete step to ensure that children in Biak and Supiori receive the nutrition they need. Through this program, we are helping to create a generation that is not only healthy but also smart,” Wakum stated.

He further explained that the MBG program in both districts is currently in the preparation phase. Wakum called on the community, parents, teachers, and school principals to work together to ensure the program’s success.

“As representatives of the Gerindra Faction in the Papua DPRP, we are committed to continuously educating and socializing the MBG program to both the community and parents of students,” he added.

Wakum emphasized that the success of the MBG program depends on the cooperation of all stakeholders, including local governments, schools, and parents. He urged everyone to work together to ensure the program reaches its target in Biak Numfor and Supiori districts.

“I hope that coordination and collaboration among all parties will ensure the smooth execution of this program and that it will achieve its goals,” Wakum stated.

Additionally, Wakum, along with his supporters and the Gerindra Party’s Biak District Committee (DPC), distributed iftar meals to Muslims observing the Ramadan fast during the 1446 Hijri year. The iftar event also included discussions with members of the Biak District Legislative Council (DPRK) and Gerindra Party DPC leaders to discuss development programs in Biak Numfor and Supiori.

Based on existing data, approximately 43,000 students in Biak Numfor District will benefit from the MBG program. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the future of children in these two districts and contribute to the development of human resources in Papua.
