Puncak Jaya – The Puncak Jaya Police Resort (Polres Puncak Jaya), in coordination with the 2025 Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, responded swiftly to a fire incident that destroyed two houses in Pruleme Village, Mulia District, Puncak Jaya Regency, in the early hours of Friday (March 14).
The first fire was reported at approximately 12:30 AM Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT). A joint team immediately coordinated with the Puncak Jaya Police Alert Unit and Brimob Yon C to reach the scene. However, upon arrival, officers found no residents or eyewitnesses in the area.
“Personnel immediately secured the location and confirmed that there were no casualties. However, about 20 minutes after the first fire, another house located 38 meters from the initial site also caught fire,” said Deputy Operations Commander of Cartenz Peace 2025, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum.
Commissioner Adarma stated that the identity of the house owners is still under investigation. Preliminary suspicions point to arson, considering that the houses were unoccupied and the area had no electricity supply.
“It is possible that this fire was intentionally set to disrupt public security and order (Kamtibmas) in Puncak Jaya, especially since the incident occurred in a region known as a base for a certain group,” he added.
To maintain security, the police have intensified monitoring and urged residents to remain vigilant against potential threats.
“We have instructed all personnel on the ground to stay on high alert, particularly when responding to nighttime incidents, to anticipate any possible threats,” Commissioner Adarma emphasized.
Currently, a joint security force is conducting further investigations to determine the motive and those responsible for the fire. Authorities urge anyone with information to report to law enforcement to support legal efforts in the region.
