Jayapura – The Chairman of the Papua General Elections Commission (KPU), Steve Dumbon, announced that the budget for the re-run of the Papua gubernatorial election is approximately Rp 110 billion.
This amount was rationalized from the initially proposed Rp 168 billion. “After rationalization, the Papua Provincial Government approved a budget of Rp 110 billion for the re-run,” said KPU Papua Chairman Steve Dumbon in Jayapura on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
It was acknowledged that the entire Rp 110 billion would not be disbursed, as KPU Papua still has a remaining budget of Rp 47 billion from the gubernatorial election held on November 27, 2024. Therefore, the Papua Provincial Government will only disburse around Rp 62 billion to finance the election stages.
According to Dumbon, the largest expenses will be allocated to funding the ad hoc bodies, logistics, and transportation. The re-run is in accordance with the Constitutional Court’s decision, which disqualified vice gubernatorial candidate number 1, Yeremias Bisay, who was paired with gubernatorial candidate Benhur Tommy Mano.
With the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the re-run, KPU Papua has reopened registration specifically for the vice gubernatorial candidate of pair number 1. “KPU Papua has reopened registration for the vice gubernatorial candidate of pair number 1 from Saturday (March 8) to Monday (March 10),” said KPU Papua Chairman Steve Dumbon.
Dumbon also added that preparations for the re-run will be carried out with great care and transparency, given the importance of a fair and honest democratic process. “We are committed to ensuring that the re-run proceeds smoothly and in accordance with the applicable regulations,” he stated.
