Jayapura, Indonesia – As the local elections (Pilkada) on November 27, 2024, approach, Melianus Yumai, the Head of the Greater Paniai Tribe, has emphasized the crucial role of the community in ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral process. In a statement, Yumai urged all parties to unite in maintaining security for the smooth running of the elections in Paniai Regency.
Yumai highlighted that the success of the Pilkada depends not only on the efforts of the Election Commission (KPU), the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), local government, and security forces, but also on the active participation of the public. He stressed that the community plays a vital role in ensuring the success of the democratic event.
“The success of this election is a collective responsibility. We all have an equal duty to ensure that the elections run smoothly and safely. Let us work together with all relevant parties to maintain security and create a peaceful atmosphere, which will contribute to better development, improved welfare, and regional economic progress,” said Yumai.
He also encouraged the people of Paniai Regency who have the right to vote to make sure they use their vote wisely, choosing leaders who are wise, caring, and have a clear vision for the development of the region and the well-being of the people.
“Use your voting rights wisely. Choose leaders who genuinely care about the needs of the people and the development of the region. This is an important opportunity for us all to contribute to building a better government,” he added.
Furthermore, Yumai called on the public not to be easily provoked by individuals who might try to disrupt the electoral process. He urged the people to maintain unity and not be swayed by rumors or issues that could undermine the stability, security, and order during the elections.
