Jayapura – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol Mathius Fakhiri confirmed reports about the death of the leader of the armed criminal group (KKB) Joni Botak, who was shot by another KKB group in the Tembagapura-Intan Jaya area, Central Papua.
“Joni Botak was arrested, abused and shot by another KKB group Monday (24/4) in Intan Jaya because he was accused of being a spy,” said Inspector General of Police Mathius Fakhiri Saturday (29/4/2023).
Previously, a video circulated in the community where Joni Botak and two of his men were abused and shot. Meanwhile, Joni Botak is one of the KKB leaders who is on the police wanted list (DPO).
Before being killed, it was reported that Joni Botak had tried to enter Tembagapura, but the security forces had already set up posts at the point that was suspected to be the path used by the KKB to enter Tembagapura.
“Security forces have closed access to Tembagapura so Joni Botak returned to Intan Jaya who was later killed by the KKB group led by Lewis Kogoya,” continued Kapolda Inspector General Fahiri.
Joni Botak only appeared after a gun battle broke out in Jipabera, around Kampung Aroanop on February 28 2020 and was involved in the shooting that killed Bharatu Doni Priyanto and the shooting of the Tembagapura Police.
